HUMIDITY

Humidity is an important element in ball python care.  It is essential to aid your ball python in shedding.  The humidity level in the a ball python's enclosure should be 50% to 60%.  This can be accomplished by placing a water dish in the enclosure.  The dish should be large enough to allow your snake soak in the bowl, if they choose.

Ventilation is important in helping maintain the desired humidity level.  This is one of the reasons we do not recommend housing your snake in a glass aquarium.  The aquarium does not have an enclosed lid.  Placing a screen lid will keep your python in it's enclosure but it allows to much humidity to escape.  Thus, making it difficult to maintain the necessary humidity levels in an aquarium.  If you choose an aquarium with a screen lid as your snake's enclosure, you will have to cover a large portion of the screen lid with a towel, plastic or something that will close off the holes in the lid.

A plastic tub is good at maintaining the humidity level.  Humidity can be managed in plastic tubs by drilling holes in the sides of the tub.  Melamine or PVC enclosures have ventilation holes or strips built in to help manage humidity.
